Have been mentally preparing to plant a ficus pandora over this asteroid looking rock for months. The tree is in training basket doing great 2 inches of growth in less than a month. Named the tree Britney after the lead of Alabama Shakes.

Pics of that rock and the tree you are considering using would help.

Also please update your profile to include location or at least USDA zone.

Many here name their trees.

Welcome.

Wooow, it looks gigantic. Maybe it's limestone?

This was almost a "crack kills" moment!

One of those things you hope you never hear your kids say.

Sorce

Is that 4th picture the same stone? The first three could well be a chunk of concrete. There's nothing says you can't plant a tree over it, though -- but I see nothing in the stone that would appreciably improve a planting. Eye of the beholder, and all that. The 4th picture could be a kind of conglomerate rock (and of course, that's what concrete is, too -- just that it is a man-made conglomerate).

Things to consider with RoR.
End state / size of tree: Your tree will grow, your rock won't. Often folks use to small a rock and the tree "out grows" it.
Size of rock: see above.
Color: Does the rock pair well or contrast with the tree.
Texture: does the rock reflect age, ruggedness and the geology where your tree would be located in. Smooth, rough, will roots attach.
Shape: will it compliment the tree or overpower it.
Material: will it last as long as your tree.
Will it crumble after years of watering, sun, rain.
Will exposure to winter freezes and thawing cycles cause it to split or frag.

Once its in place it is pretty much committed for the duration.

I have seen quite a few RoRs where all you are left with is some messed up exposed roots because attention was not given to the "future" of the material.

Good luck.

I was thinking that it was concrete doesn't really matter to me. As far as the size of the tree versus the size of the rock, I am dealing with that situation with a Barbados Cherry. Hopefully my learning curve will increase over the next year

It will increase, but you'll still be stuck with a ROR you spent valuable time to create. One day if you're still with it in 5 years, you'll wish you would have chosen a better stone.

Welcome, BTW.

Thank You All for the advice and information, I am thinking and rethinking my plans for this ROR planting.

I can't be sure but I think its moon rock. 🤪
