Ran across this site a few days ago. Hadn't seen it before. Quite a few pretty nice collected grey oaks from New Mexico, as well as ponderosa, pinyon and other species from the southwest you don't see very often. Anyone bought here before?

Congrats on the purchase! I believe he's a member here. Can't remember the name, but he's posted not too too long ago.

They have some pretty nice material. I'll have to keep them in mind next time I'm looking for a new project. Thanks for letting us know.

yeah I think I've seen that guy here too, looks like a good oak!

I'll be ordering an oak in a about a months time. I figure I'll dig some myself and support some people also digging them. Pretty good priced for the material.

Sorry ;-)

Sorry ;-)
Not at all a problem, I'm glad someone who will do it well is getting it. I'm buying one to do a wiring demo for my club and selling it, though I feel no one in my club has that kind of cash laying around so it'll probably still be mine.:) this just gives me an excuse to look for another which,is always fun;). Good luck with the tree once you get it. NM oaks are some tough SOB's. Can't wait to see better pics then the website has to offer.

I went back and looked at the thread Max put up. I posted in it  and didn't remember, which is embarrassing . Wish I'd picked up on it sooner. That twisty oak he posted in that thread was pretty spectacular.

And BTW, I put a deposit down on Grey Oak #6...
Mark, how do you feel these trees will deal with the high humidity on the east coast? You can't beat the price for the collected trunk and bark, but I'm concerned about fungal issues, along with root issues which could probably be mitigated by the soil mix.

Pure pumice, lotsa sun...

My concerns also. Ponderosa pines have similar concerns, but they do well here. got my fingers crossed anyway.

Yeah, I gave up on Ponderosa here in N GA a few years ago. My RMJs do fairly well, though they don't grow as fast and are Cedar-Apple rust magnets. For the dough, it may be worth a shot. I assume you'll be wintering yours in your yard with just mulch, or will it be going to the greenhouse with your live oak...just wondering.

Can't afford another tree in the greenhouse. It's staying in the backyard under mulch. The grey oak is from high desert and is a zone hardier than my other live oak.

Ponderosa do pretty well here. I've got friends who have a lot of them. I have one myself that I'm ruining with bad design. Had it for going on ten years now.

The price is why I pulled the trigger on this one. Nice piece of material for the $$. We'll have to see how it fares.

I think your spot on with your care that you'll give. NM oaks can go dry, but prefer to stay moist, pumice will be perfect. Your sun isn't anywhere close to how ours is but full sun would be like dappled shade here, which they also love!

Can't wait to see how it does with you - I found some oaks this last weekend for spring collection. Not as nice as this one but I found an couple oak!
