Nigel saunders bonsai zone [unpopular opinion]

idk I dont like to judge, but it seems that Nigel takes a different approach to bonsai than what the 'mainstream' is. I'm not sure what you mean by 'not taking care of his plants' since he posts about that often. He's not posting many tree care videos now because he lives in Canada and its winter. Not much else to do. Nigel likes constructing miniature landscapes and trying to create 'natural' looking trees via pruning. Shaping via pruning isn't the fastest method to get a super duper fancy tree, but there's really nothing wrong with doing it. Not everyone takes bonsai as seriously or as conforming as some of us. He just likes small potted trees. If you dont like his approach to bonsai just dont watch his videos. Not everyone who's doing something the 'wrong' way needs to be corrected
Why is everyone acting like i cant hate what i hate? Do you love everyone and everything everywhere? You have no negative views on anything? Everything is just so great and dandy? Who are you people are why are you trying to force me to like someone i dont like? What's your problem? You are all bullies and its embarrassing because we are all adults here supposed to be having an adult conversation about our likes and dislikes. Thats how a conversation works?

we are all adults here
Really? Are you?
The frequency that you post that and the way in which you post AND the arguments you make do hint in the direction of a 17 year old boy behind a screen somewhere in the Cape, very much wanting to belong yet not owning a single bonsai.

Soo.. Lets recap.

You come on here.
You start putting a few bonsai artists under the tram
When people push back, you start telling the community on this forum off.

And you are surprised people are annoyed?

Do you love everyone and everything everywhere?
well, until Friday at 6:48 PM I did get along fine with all on the forum. Then a cold draft came in.
I for one just hate the way you come in here and start riling everybody up.

I dont understand the question

Get yourself a tree. Leave the computer, relax and go play in the garden

If I came out and said I hated people in my network of blacksmiths nobody would hire me or work with me.

My trees and my youtube channel are availlable on my profile did you even look?
I did! Why does it look as if all of your trees are planted in shit garden soil?
You talk about how uninspiring Nigels videos are, but at least he understands the basics of soil needed to grow bonsai.
Unlike your sticks in dirt!!
And your attempt at maple seedlings are done with the proper media! Yeah, right!!

Here where I'm at in America, "hate" can be a very strong word. You can think of "hate" as wanting to hurt someone physically. I suspect this isn't what you mean about Nigel, and folks are misinterpreting what you mean.

You are emotionally invested in Nigel Saunders.

Huh.
That’s what is funny.. EVERYONE who posts in this thread IS, in fact emotionally invested in Nigel Saunders.. whether it be positive OR negative..

We are talking about him, aren’t we?

🤓

I was talking to my kids the other day about how hate is no stronger a WORD than love.

Hate hate hate..... powerless.

It's the emotion behind it that matters, I don't think this emotion our new Friend is feeling is that "hateful", as much as he just used a word to describe what he was feeling.

My daughter says "I hate you" all the time, but cries with sincerety if she ever actually hurts someone. I'd be a fool to think she is actually hateful.

I regularly "hate this shit", question it, and realize the media is making me question it, wasting my time.

👇Just watch the first one knowing these veterans we, "thank for their service", with all emptiness, are watching too.

I believe @Bravura Bonsai came to a realization that changed his life so greatly, he made a first post that it's really hard to back peddle on, but he didn't mean it, as proven by the continued righteous conversation.

A lotta, who I call (insert you preffered politically correct or private incorrect insult here), ACTUALLY hate this dude.

They are cowards because they are not here backing up the hate.
Or smart enough to know they don't share the same hate.

Y'all still have respect for those people that actually hate Nigel.

Just Saying.

Don't let them confuse you!

You're acting like more hate beats hate.

Sorce

Dude gets up and is like "ok, we're going to spend two hours grinding in front of a white board" and I was like "no we aren't" *click*

Perfect example of falling into the wrong target audience. In both undergrad and graduate school, I've spent far more on lectures with far less knowledgeable instructors. But watching those Ryan Niel videos is hard for work, even if it's fun work, and there's no point in watching at the end of a long day when you're tired. I know I can't get much from it without being alert and ready to take notes. I don't literally write everything down, but I need to be able to actively engage with the content.

We both, respectively, love our flawed pinus nigras.

I sit on a daybed and alternate between looking out the window and the landline phone waiting for his call.

There, I said it.

exactly. It’s a note taking kind of instruction and I’m usually watching this stuff from bed at night!

Thumbing through, and fondly reminiscing on your collection of love letters neatly bound in that little leather box one would keep on a closet shelf, under blankets.

I recently finished my undergrad and I can tell most people who dont like his content probably didnt attend a college/university within the recent past. Its human nature to struggle paying attention to a long and information dense lecture on a narrow topic. watching his vids at 1.5-2x speed is a pretty good way to get through them faster and I usually watch them late at night while playing games in another tab

its still incredibly odd to write so much negativity about someone who doesn't exactly deserve it, and especially since it's not exactly an opinion that needs to be shared either. I don't think anyone on this forum is interested in a thread where we trash on videos we dont like and sharing all our negative opinions. I doubt you'd care or want to hear my long list of stuff I hate.

huh? I never said anything about you and I'm not trying to bully you. I simply explained my perspective that Nigel isn't trying to do the same thing with bonsai as most other peopleAnd just because I have negative views on things doesn't mean 1) I share them with everyone 2) that everyone must care and respect my opinions 3) I can't get called out for being randomly negative when there's really no reason to be. Even the initial reasons you listed are just untrue. Saying he 'neglects his trees' because he let a piece that experienced dieback grow unpruned for a few years is...odd. You seem to be in the understanding that you must constantly be working on or affecting your trees. Your entire perspective about him somehow being a fake or a poser or clickbait is weirdly aggressive for no reason. You even suggested he styles his hair to appear like an average joe? huh? If thats not paranoid thinking, IDK what is. You seem to be filled with a lot of negative feelings towards Nigel and I think its a weird and unhealthy fixation

Guilty. Finished my last degree 16 years ago. And when I WAS taking classes in uni, I hated long-winded people too. I really have a hard time spending an hour or more watching someone standing in front of a whiteboard. 9 out of 10 times, the best route is to not lecture at all but only have interactive discussion, Q/A sessions, imo. But that is why I prefer face-to-face over online :)
