I just got this tree today, cheap on ebay, and could use some advice. I have read the threads on them here, and looks like some summer outdoors, some keep indoors all year long. I do have patio doors with a southern exposure, where I keep my other tropical's indoors in the winter. It is in a rather deep pot, and appears to be in potting soil. Should I re-pot now, or just let it grow? I read that they could be re-potted if the night time temps were above 60. Also the lowest branch, is currently wired. Should I leave that on, or remove it? Sorry, so many questions!GREWIA.jpg GREWIA2.jpg

Nice...I would let it stabilize for a week or so....
And repot it when it shows it likes it's new home.
Unless you are comfortable watering that soil, leave it till next summer.

The winter place sounds good for this one too...
Though I am starting to wonder if you are running low on space there!

Thanks. I think from the comment I got on repotting the azalea I also got today, maybe I should just leave it as it is, and not get in a hurry. Lol, maybe getting a little low on space. Have BRT coming tomorrow. But that's not my fault, I bid the minimum $5 on Ebay, and forgot about it. Next time I checked my e-mail, I got it lol. Thanks for responding, thought I was being ignored by everyone.

Good haul on the BRT!

I think a lot of folks are already sleeping....lame o's!

Couple questions....

Are those yellow lines 3 separate branches?
I would Maybe cut it off at the red line,
To get rid of that top section and that wound that looks kinda wide.

And maybe bend that wired branch back up and out a bit.

Another benefit of the cut would be to give a lil boost to those lower branches, so you can either use them later, or let em thicken your trunk.

You may be able to root the top...
But honestly, I have no idea how these grow or if this is a good idea!
I just feel like thinking about trees!

I can't wait to see the BRT! Score!

Yes, the yellow line are three branches. I get the red cut, but should I wait awhile to let the tree acclimates? Plus, the top has flower buds and I got it because I like flowers. But I don't know shit, so will take advice willingly. Happy to talk about live trees, since my giant weeping willow got trashed tonight! The BRT will probably suck, but for $5 I don't care.

Sounds like a good idea!

I was thinking take an airlayer up there if for nothing less than experience, shits, and giggles!

Sorce
I've been reading up on air layers, so maybe? I have a lot more shits and giggles than experience :)

Lol!

That made me giggle, and almost shit....that....was a new experience!

I'd say have at the layer, it is fun, and rewarding.
Maybe spring!

Wow, not sure I can get that picture out of head! Going to see how it makes it through the winter. I figure if I can get my patio orange and lemon to flower there during the winter, it should be ok. I know you're all about digging your own, I have a really nice weeping willow you could have..... Bring a BIG truck. Also take the bastard that fell on it.

I just realized I said it was growing like weed, instead of like A weed, lol. Maybe weed grows fast too, IDK!

Nice looking little Lavendar. I love the flowers on them. I've since plucked mine, and trimmed it down quite a bit.

I really have no idea what I'm going to do with mine, so I'll be following your progress here.

You can see the chop Sorce proposed, but I'm not doing anything until spring, for sure. Yep, the flowers are what attracted me to it in the first place, love purple. First bloom was exciting!

That's probably a good idea.

The flowers are beautiful.

I think its important to know that its not a tropical plant. It grows naturally in arid and wetter areas alike, though its thrives better in moderate dry areas. Its drought and frost resistant. Its also a scrambling shrub to small tree in nature. Its growth habits is also that of a scrambling, almost creeper like bush, so when its actively growing that needs to be kept in mind when training it... best to have a clear styling plan, and to stick to it...
It flowers profusely over summer. It air layers very easy. Mine started flowering after separation and never looked back. Tolerates root work well,
Best I think to leave it in this soil until next spring and then replant in a bigger grow pot to get some bulk to it. Its still young and rather skinny now. I wont worry about styling now. First grow that trunk some...while enjoying the flowers in the meantime off course ;)

Always good to have some knowledge about their natural growth habits. Here is some info...
