Went to my favorite nursery the other day and went digging for something cool, just like digging through record crates you never know what you'll find! Picked this rhodo up for alot less than i thought its worth was. I figured i'd just let it get strong then cut it back because its tall.....too tall. But anyone have any tips to how late i cut it back before its too late for the year? I dont plan on taking it back too hard, mostly just so that it can fit in my greenhouse. Also anyone else have some cool rhodos theyre working on?

It looks like a dwarf. I'm in the first styling phase of a Leprechaun dwarf. I'm trying to get the wild rangy look they have in the forest. I'm not very experienced but I would think it might not be too late to cut back, although earlier might be better. Looking at the pics it doesn't appear very robust, but if you were just cutting the tall part and leaving foliage on the bottom I'd say do it. Then fertilize all summer.

It's probably ok to cut a couple pairs of buds off the tallest branches like velodog said.
