NC Arboretum - Asheville - 9.25.2020

The Japanese White Pine (picture #4) seems to have more yellow needles than I would expect at this time of year. Is that normal for this species?

Thanks for posting the great pictures.

Yes, those are last year’s needles. They turn yellow before they turn brown and fall off.

Thanks for the pictures, seems like you had a nice atmospheric weather to tour the collection. Is Arthur Joura still in charge? He’s an inspiring guy.

Yes it was near perfect weather for viewing the collection, I actually go while its raining and you are usually the only person there. I also like how the rain makes the concrete wall behind the trees contrast so much as it dries. I think it also makes the trees look better in pictures. Arthur is and you can usually catch him there, he makes the Arboretum a very unique place.

Timing is right on for the climate. Mine are a little ahead of this one.

Gee, it's nice to see some trees that aren't 16" tall.

They have a great collection there...I already have my cabin reserved for the show in June next year

I'm usually not a big fan of bald cypress bonsai, but that one really appeals to me.
Love that Acer rubrum as well.
Thanks for sharing!

missed being at the expo this weekend. June can’t come soon enough:)
I appreciate you donating that cypress to the arboretum and look forward to seeing you in June. Just follow this thread and I will be back at the Arboretum every other week to take pictures and post them here.
