NC Arboretum - Asheville - 9.25.2020

Hey all , the Arboretum was fantastic today, the rain let up enough for me to take some photos, enjoy:

 

[Leo in N E Illinois]

That is the first use of Viburnum cassinoides I can recall as bonsai. A North American native, in a genus not often used for bonsai. Looks great.

The Japanese White Pine (picture #4) seems to have more yellow needles than I would expect at this time of year. Is that normal for this species?

Yes, those are last year’s needles. They turn yellow before they turn brown and fall off.

Yes it was near perfect weather for viewing the collection, I actually go while its raining and you are usually the only person there. I also like how the rain makes the concrete wall behind the trees contrast so much as it dries. I think it also makes the trees look better in pictures. Arthur is and you can usually catch him there, he makes the Arboretum a very unique place.

I'm usually not a big fan of bald cypress bonsai, but that one really appeals to me.

I appreciate you donating that cypress to the arboretum and look forward to seeing you in June. Just follow this thread and I will be back at the Arboretum every other week to take pictures and post them here.
