Mystery Fruit Tree

By the way,, the tree popped this flower overnight which may give us a little more of a clue as to what it may be. The folks at my local bonsai supply said they believed it could be an apricot.

I thought I might try some cuttings from this tree and about the same time saw this plastic container from my wife's hoity toity special apples. I think it may turn out to be a good container for cuttings.

A very typical prunus blossom .... i don't however think its an apricot ,their blossoms are similar however the petals tend to be closer together ....

regardless of what it is.. it should have a very interesting floral display... once the leaves extend more we can do more to determine what type of prunus this might be.

decent pictures - can you get anything bigger though? It definitely looks very Prunus-ish to me. Does it release gummy sap? That would be another indicator that it's probably Prunus, I think. I'm no expert, but I've seen my share of cherry and peach trees. I think the exact species shouldn't make much of a difference regarding when to repot, but I'll let others with more experience chime in on this one. In the meantime, here's some good information regarding general care of bonsai trees of the Prunus genus: http://bonsai4me.com/SpeciesGuide/Prunus.html . Repotting information is third in the list.

I agree with daygan, here. My first reaction was either a peach or cherry. Look for glands at the base of the leaf petiole. If they are there, you've got a Prunus sp. of some kind.
