My new Elm:)

I recently just got my computer back from the shop. I think I was hacked. I did not post the above message.

Feel free to use when ever you don't "agree"........and don't aim to......:p

Before we get back on track. True story. I was in Jupiter FL and saw them film the scene in Smokey & the Bandit II when the sheriff's car got hung up on the drawbridge. I was 7, and expected it to be a whole lot cooler, but it was kind of boring. Saw the Bandit too, but not Burt or Sally. Carry on.

Junior: You know, Daddy, I like this place. All the 'gators and snakes and stuff. Why don't we move down here?

Buford T. Justice: Why don't YOU move down here?

Junior: Oh no, Daddy, I ain't NEVER leavin' home, that's a promise.

Buford T. Justice: Don't you ever, EVER threaten yo' daddy like that again!

Have to think the OP is startin' to feel like this......:p

Nope, not even close! I just don't bother sticking around in conversations that become unpleasant and a drag to me:) I come on the internet for enjoyment to discuss things that bring me joy and once someone turns a positive thread into something that resembles this, it just becomes a waste of my time. Learning to walk away from conversations that turn negative is one of the best things I've ever accomplished. Don't mistake my silence for weakness, this thread has not dented me in the slightest way:) Just another harmless thread on yet another forum that went south because of a couple of discolored personalities.

I'm teasing, Joe!!:p Stick around! It's like coming into a conversation late ,and causing some confusion. On everyone's part! Lots to learn here, and the folks are not as bad as it might seem.

I never walk away from a conversation that gets negative. At that point, I always figured your right on the cusp of solving a problem or understanding another person's point of view. If you walk away, you might have inadvertently caused other problems or at least left everyone with some animosity. Who needs that? I understand some people can be REALLY tough to deal with, that's why I took up container growing. A great path to a more calm state of mind. I don't refer to it as "Bonsai".....have you seen my sticks?:D:D:D:D

Enjoy your tree, that's most important. And always think towards it's future and yours as well. You might just end up seeing something in the tree that leads you both on a completely new path.....

Yikes.....sounds a little like some lame lecture.....sorry.....clever gif moment
Enjoy the wiggle of your tree......

My favorite movie!

Welcome.

Great, then you'll do fine here. As for the tree . . .

I've been thinking for a while that we should make "New to Bonsai" bingo cards. The boxes could contain common issues we're often tiptoeing around with new members, like this sampling:
Stick-in-a-pot
Glazed/Unglazed issue (e.g. Juniper in a glazed pot or Elm in unglazed pot)
"S" curve trunk
Reverse taper and/or Lack of taper
Handlebar branches and/or Mirror-symmetry
Thin lower branch(es) and/or thick upper branch(es)
Floating root(s)
Tacky statues/rocks (with or without inspirational words)/figurines/accents
Concern for the number of "years old" a tree is
Etc.

Add to those a few common new member quirks like:
Believing a tree has a personality/soul/mind
References to "breaking the rules" of bonsai
zen/quasi-spiritual drivel
Suggestions for how the forum should change
and so on . . .

You haven't hit all of those, but I'm pretty sure we can get to BINGO!

Hey guys; what am I missing? I'm sure I forgot a few classics.

As much as I dont want to bring this thread up again, given the kind of discussion that went on.. I have to say, holy crap. The number of things on this beginner list that I hit in my first post. Wow..
Thankfully, I hit none of the "quirks" list, but my first bonsai (wasn't bought by me, was by my mum, so I take some pride in not having made the mistake personally...), hit nearly every one of that list.

But, pardon my french, FUCK IT.
It is my first tree. It has taught me a lot and will continue to do so, cost next to nothing and I like it! With handle bar branches, S curve trunk, reverse taper branches and lack of taper trunk. I don't mind that being, one of many, rite of passages.
It is about to finish being air layered actually, it should be finished now or within a week.

Also in that first post about it, I had @M. Frary do exactly what someone mentioned and be blunt and tell me my tree had all those issues.. before I even knew those issues existed. But as much as that kinda stung a little, looking back now, I can completely understand and it lead me to learn about all those issues, then move on to how to avoid them, or correct them. So, I guess what Im trying to say is, its funny to see how all these normal common newbie mistakes, I did them all and probably WILL CONTINUE to make some, Im still pretty new.

But, gotta start somewhere.

(@LanceMac10 Im on PC for once so I can post gifs, HA!)

Righteous post brother!!!!

But the gif 'taint workin"

Really? It works for me. God damn it. My one time to shine!
I couldnt upload it, I had to link it instead but it loaded and is still playing infront of me now. Probably wrong and only works for me.

ha...works on the computer in my office....odd.....:D
Hate cats!!!

To be fair, I had no idea what gif I was looking for.. And that seemed appropriate with the whole, one cat being a fool and the other clever. So was close enough!

We can't all have folders of gifs on our computer with perfect and appropriately named topics for each one, ready at the drop of a hat... LANCE!

Sooo, no ones got a better gif than a four legged cat fight? No two legged, booty shak'in, cat fight? Oh yeah, wouldn't be any point to the OP. That's good by the way, that gif, and it moves on mine.

So @LanceMac10, don't just leave us hang'in, what movie was it?

By the way, OP, stick around, ya just might learn somp'n.
