No prob/offense.
Just thought I'd share, because they're niwaki/garden-trees... and not bonsai. And they also show the surrounding garden and garden rocks.

Here is more of my garden and garden-trees.

1st pic is an Imoto Fuyu Persimmon (across the grape-vine) I just planted a couple months ago in spring. It was a bare-root grafted whip with no branches. It leafed out nicely.

2nd and 3rd pics are Ume (one is white Ume and one is pink Ume). They were also both planted this spring and were also bare-root grafted whips with no branches. They both leafed and branched out. As you can see, one of them is super vigorous. All that growth is just from this year.

Last 3 pics is a bush I restyled about 1-2 years ago. Unknown plant (anyone know??). It was a huge 5’x5’ square or circle with hundreds/thousands of twigs inside, like all the others I restyled. Lots of branch selection pruning on this one, like the rest. It has an interesting, crazy, zig-zaggy trunk line.

Today I took some time and organized my trees a bit, I only have a little corner dedicated to my trees. I want to redo my tables, now that I have 2, I want them to match. I also think I could use that space more wisely to fit more trees, NEED MORE TREEEES! Anyway, here’s My corner, not much but I’m proud of it.

Nice, I suggest 2 tables with a shelve above them for the smaller tree's

Just moved into a new house this past Tuesday, here is the area I will working on for the garden. Total acreage is 4, probably looking at a 1/4 acre for the garden with the natural pond consuming a portion of that. It's in the eastern part of Dahlonega GA. A lot of work to do, lucky to be in the landscape industry for easy access to equipment and materials.

I finally sold my 30 year old pink-concrete exposed-aggregate stepping stones a few weeks ago. Took a while on CL, probably 6 months, lol.
But, I made decent money back and bought granite stepping stones as a replacement.

I received them just today, and placed them already.. even though the weather isn’t the most ideal. I was just excited and also didn’t want to block the driveway.

I hated the old ones, especially its’ pink-concrete (which greatly cheapened the look of the new and very nice pebbles and gravel).
I love these new granite ones so much! The rough-hewn makes them look very natural and like boulders. I am very happy with them.

Hey, Sergio, I’m starting in building my garden this Friday! Your place is an inspiration!

I am adding a koi pond, though. It will be either the greatest thing I’ve ever done, or the most foolish! Lol!!! I’ll let you be the judge!

Adair this is exciting!! I am sure it will be beautiful! As long as you're willing to put in the time, I don't think you can go wrong with one. So look forward to seeing it and its progress!


My own garden going through some changes as we speak. The main central area is being rethought. The round stone wall is gone where my Mirai elm sits. It will now be redesigned with large stones and a few heavy posts where I will be placing my largest trees. Pics to come at some point. I hope it turns out well. As I am clearing up the entire area, I am once tempted to put in a koi pond myself. My main issue is that I do have all sorts of creatures roaming around including bears and foxes on the ground and hawks and blue herons up in the air. I just think the koi fish will be sitting lunch for my wild friends. Another issue is that it will need to be quite deep to ensure they survive the winter. Let's see what else...

They can build in fish caves. An experienced pond builder knows how to build ponds in your area.

The guy I have doing mine was instrumental in building the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta!

whenever I have looked into this, my trouble was both 5b winters, and very hot summers. will your pond need to be in near complete shade?

Not my garden, but a friends. He had a big bush of a conifer that was an 'eyesore' and was going to dig it out and bin it. I said I could probably have a go at niwaki and turn it in to something presentable. No before shot - just a bush - but a few hours later, here's the result.

Derek, I really don’t want to hijack Sergio’s thread talking about koi ponds more than we already have.

I will start a fresh thread, and I’ll address your question there.

Very nice job! Looks very beautiful.

I did all my old unkempt garden trees too (big round blobs) ...big ones took 8 hours each with a sawzall... smaller ones took 3-6 hours each.
At least they will be much easier to maintain now (even if left to be neglected for many years... as the existing chosen branches will be much easier to locate, as they'll be fatter than all or any of the newer un-ideal branches/growths)

@Adair is Chuck assisting with the koi pond? I am making a koi pond as well, I plan on using a couple of Chuck's filters.
