My first Shimpaku styling

Matt be careful with your watering. If you slip potted into a larger pot and the new soil is more porous than the soil on the root ball the water will bypass the root ball and just drain through the new porous soil on the sides. AND then you have a dying tree. (PS I am from down below you Spring Lake)

Just a wee bit of progression on this Shimpaku. It's starting to slowly fill in. I was going to put it in a nice pot next spring but I think I'll leave it in this bigger pot to keep it growing strong next year.

Thanks for the update. It certainly looks healthy in addition to having decent potential. Your work is going good! Also, your thought on leaving it in that pot for a season or even a few is not unusual and in my opinion a good choice ;)

Looks like the tree is doing great.
I just notice in the very first picture on this thread, that your wire cutters are on the bench soaking wet, I'd have a heart attack if I got water on my nice tools!!!:p:rolleyes:

Looks like a fun little tree; nice job so far.
I think if it were mine, next year I might use a big-'ol wire and try to put just a bit more bend in the trunk.

It's a fun little tree, definitely not a show stopper but I like it. Shimpaku has such nice foliage! A pretty average tree can look pretty good. I was actually thinking about trying to get some more bend in the main trunk, it would require a pretty big bend.... probably raffia etc. Another thought would be to change the angle when I repot, it could cascade a little more. Currently the trunk is too parrelel to the soil surface.

busted! I accidentally do that occasionally. Actually my wire cutters are pretty cheap but still!

Coming right along! I agree shimpaku are a lot of fun. Don't have to worry about everything reverting to juvenile if you look at it wrong.
