my entries for Noelanders Trophy

Vince, on this image as of 2012 you can see the structure. It does not matter to me at all whether that's in the rules or not.. The only thing that matters is whether it looks natural and good. Don't forget that our bonsai taste is corrupted by seeing standard bonsai for decades. It is an acquired tase and can be unleaned.

The area is much more clear in the image from 2012. It not only puts my question in perspective but answers it as well. It's hard for me to rely on my instincts and see a tree for what it is when I'm always confronted with the "rules" as we know them. Hearing those words from me, "The only thing that matters is whether it looks natural and good" doesn't mean a hill of beans but from you, people will listen. Thanks for saying that and responding.
