My Arakarwa Maple

I like the trunk and bark! It might need some grafts, but hard to see right now with all that foliage. Did you take pictures of it before it leafed out this year?

Great trunk on this one! I love Arakawa...

You have a beautiful yard!

How long have you had this tree John? Done any layers or cuttings?

Such great bark- there seem to be a few different varieties of cork bark/ "Pine" Bark Maples, some make more lumpy, almost unnatural/ unhealthy looking bark... Yours has a perfect crackled "just irregular enough" pattern- this is the one we all want to see!

I think its ugly and needs to be sent to me so I can dispose of it for you.

Jk.

Killer bark, awesome tree.

Pretty darn nice, I like the thinness of the branching. Excellent taper and movement.

Nice! Beautiful bark and lovely silhouette. Why is wire around the lower trunk?

Still a work in progress and it need a trim, I have already cut it back once this year. I need to leave some of them long as I plan to use them for grafting. What do you think?

Wonderful! But PLEASE protect that trunk from the wire with something! ;) Truly something I would love to work on!

I've read that these are vigerous growers and judging from yours it would seem so. I really dig the arakawas, I plan to add one to my collection.

How well does it heal when it is barked up like that? If you remove a branch or chop back a bit into the bark will it look believable?

Much slower than green maples. One trick, specially if you plan to exhibit, is to take bits of bark and lay them over the cut paste so that becomes essentially invisible.

Nice tree Mellow with very nice movement ;) Incidentally they are supposed to be shorter lived than other maples. Their ramification is also coarser and not as fine. Still, I love arakawas!

Looks great. Is there some reverse taper on the trunk? Either way, you may find it handy to keep some small Arakawa air layers.
