Maple repotting

I am in zone 8b Georgia. When should I repot small maple bonsai? The Japanese maples I have in my yard always push out leafbefore the last couple freezes.
I do have an unheated garage I can move them to.

You can repot now if you can protect it from freezing, or to be safe <40f. Or wait as late as possible just before the buds are opening. I've repotted one already and shuffle it in the garage if needed.

I did mine a few weeks back, just been keeping them in garage on colder nights.

Also, I know soil is a wide subject but my first re-potting's of maples I will use this formula.

• 50% Akadama
• 25% Pumice
• 25% Lava rock
