Failed repotting of japanese maple

Our line of thinking is that small amounts of soil will be flushed out onto the deck everyday causing more damage than "just" rainwater. But we are very new deck owners having only had concrete patios before so we are not very knowledged when it comes to these things so we tend to err on the safe side. But good to know it's not a problem!

When you do a first watering after a repot, youll get some fines coming out of the bottom of the pot but if you water it well right after repotting as you should do, that should be the end of it.
Just hose those fines off the deck after you do that first good rinse and should be fine. The humans and dogs tracking sand up onto the deck did way more damage by wearing through the stain than anything else. We replaced the decking with plastic deck material 2-3 years ago because the wood eventually does get old and will need replacing at some point.

Decks and concrete will stain under pots so a tray is good protection. Keep the partner happy! Just put something (gravel, sand, pieces of tile, etc) in the tray so the pot does not sit in water all day.

Acid rain and such will weather your patio...a good pressure washer across the top makes it good as new. Don't stress the smalls. It steals the joys of here and now. Live a little...and breathe.

Tree looks like it will have a better chance repotted. I'm glad to see you do that.

My opinion is that if you're renting, don't stain the deck! It's not worth losing your deposit.
