Daaaaaaaaang!
Daaaaaaaaang!
Thanks! I think this pot will look best unglazed. That looks nice.
glazed or unglazed?
I can see an unglazed version of that quickly developing nice patina and algae/ lichen growth on and between the beads down here in the heat and 76,005% humidity.
Thanks! One of my goals is to have at least one pot in every continent.....not sure how I will be able to get one on Antarctica though, lolAlways enjoy seeing your subtle details, and ongoing variations --
Delighted to see your pieces headed for Japan, too!
LOL, I don't think the mame pots will cover the bills......it is a nice hobby though. I always enjoy making something from nothing.Remarkable work my friend. Ready to give up the day job?![]()
I keep doing the pricing and cost models to find, for myself, when this would be a possibility.. I’d better start figuring it out NOW.. while my production is small.Remarkable work my friend. Ready to give up the day job?![]()
For the amount of time I put into each pot, and for what I can get for them I will never be on top. For me it's more about making a pot that I have envisioned in my mind and trying to make that a reality. Sometimes I'm able to do it, other times the clay says what it wants to become.I keep doing the pricing and cost models to find, for myself, when this would be a possibility.. I have MOST fixed costs figured out, except tool wear., that MIGHT have to be figured in variable.
The variable stuff.. i don’t know how EXACTLY to calculate/empt for.. because I haven’t been doing this long enough.. liiiiike I just warped my 15” octagon kiln shelf.
Buuuut I DO know that my “clay and plant” money THIS year.. paid my clay and plant bills (minus electricity ((more money WAS spent on plants, and more money MADE on clay)))... so getting closer to peace.
Hehe...I understand, friend. For the amount of time I put into each pot, and for what I can get for them I will never be on top. For me it's more about making a pot that I have envisioned in my mind and trying to make that a reality. Sometimes I'm able to do it, other times the clay says what it wants to become.
But do you break even? How much do you consider 1hr of your time is worth?I guess “breaking even” IS peace.
So .... making money is more peace?I guess “breaking even” IS peace.
Nothing .... I'm retired .... and tired. How much do you consider 1hr of your time is worth?
Haha! Clay is how I CHOOSE to spend my time.. it’s leisure. I mean break even on expenses... like I LIKE to do clay and plants... annnnd money FROM “clay and plants” SUPPORTED my “clay and plants”... I value my time.. and i consider that in my pricing models.. buuut Time for structures is calculated differently than time for pots... it’s a different process. But do you break even? How much do you consider 1hr of your time is worth?
No... being able to do the things I LOVE to pay for the things I/we NEED... that.. would be peace. So .... making money is more peace?
Nothing .... I'm retired .... and tired.
Also, it’s hard to consider accurately... I throw pieces slowly.. throughout two days... I squeeze my life around the work.... so it’s hard to tell EXACTLY how much time of ACTUAL work is put in..But do you break even? How much do you consider 1hr of your time is worth?
I used to make a pot from start to finish no break in between.....I have since broken the process up into segments. I work on them when I can or want to work on them. Also, it’s hard to consider accurately... I throw pieces slowly.. throughout two days... I squeeze my life around the work.... so it’s hard to tell EXACTLY how much time of ACTUAL work is put in..
Gotta get a punch-clock!![]()
And you are doing a great job.I always enjoy making something from nothing.
