Has anybody here done this?

I would really like some help as to how to do it. My wife has started some pottery lessons and I asked if she could make me some non round pots, she asked me to find out how to make 2 piece molds for pots to copy.

I would love to hear from experience if anybody can help.

I have made many molds for pots. It's not hard if you have a wet clay pot you can make from and discard. Just don't cut the wholes out and as long as it has no undercuts you can place the wet clay pot upside down in a shoe box or something and poor plaster over it. When the plaster dries spray the wet pot out with a water hose. When you poor slip into the mold it will dry fast enough that the molded pot will pop away from the plaster mold.
I'm about the make some molds in the next few weeks. I'll try to make a video for ya.

Barrosinc, Kodama16,

youtube to the rescue -

one piece mould -

two piece mould -

For this one use CLAY instead of sand -

If you look at the Bonsai pot or shape to be copied you can figure out how to and how many pieces you need to cast,
as in 3 , 4 , 5 ,,,,,,,,,, piece mold.

Note the material used to keep thie plaster from sticking to an object or itself.

No need to destroy anything.

Well that's a little tougher. You normaly got to make a multi peace mold like the last video. Use pan cooking spray to make the plaster not stick to the pot.

I'm out of plaster. I'll go get some and show you how it done. Might be a few weeks before I can do the video though.

@Kodama16 were you able to do some moulds???
I have been using slab techniques for the time being... but would love to do a mould for a large pot.
