I just want to make sure I understand fully.

1. Buy a mug pine
2. I keep it in a pot, I can increase pot size. But no tossing it in the ground.
3. I decandle the first 3 years, but that’s all. (Is wiring allowed?)
4. The 4th year I go to town on it and expose the masterpiece hiding within.

Have I got that right?

And sorry, but I can’t buy one until next month when the seasonal stock comes in. Even the garden centres won’t bring in anything before then.

Have you read the tutoriial?

We are following Vance Woods’ protocol for Mugo Pines regarding pruning, repotting, decandling, etc. There is a section about transferring the tree from a nursery can into a training container (so, correct, no putting it into the ground for this contest).

I did read it but things didn’t sink in very well. I’ve not been sleeping well and it’s amazing how badly that breaks your brain.

Sorry I disappeared. I found a mugo I at Home Depot I’ll get a picture soon. It kind of stood out since it was growing tall rather than wide like everything around it.

But it’s been cold & wet so my joints are screaming. I haven’t been doing much.
