I always head for the corners, ask to look around. I got a 3 1/2" thick azalea for about $5 not long ago. But thats a CR price. I doubt trees that size are cheaper anywhere. But my point is that looking in the corners and behind sheds is where the good stuff is. Weird shapes most folks don't want for landscape. Perfect for us. My experience is in the tropics but I bet nurseries everywhere are similar. So I agree with you. And I like to support locals not box chain stores. They have no soul.

My local is a good friend and customer. He has over a dozen motorcycles I work on. Every time he has me come out to look at a bike he knows it cost him a tree or two. Plus the landscape end, he always keeps an eye out for something I may want before trashing them. I have the run of the place and he shows me in ground stuff in the back forty by the river.

Repotted this Pear stump today. Lots of roots grew last year. Lots of roots trimmed and removed a couple thick roots from the very middle.

Time for better soil.

Might try my hand at carving the top some next year.

Cheers.
