I've noticed that most sweetgums used for bonsai are the orientalis species, and some styraciflua. Has anyone seen examples of formosana used as bonsai? Seems like it would be more tolerant to warmer conditions.

Yup, I'm more interested in trees that don't need a cold dormancy.

From some not too in depth searching they do seem to do alright in sub tropical areas of Australia.

I've never seen one in person, bonsai or otherwise! Do you have access to them for sale?
Edit: I'm going to amend this to say that it's very possible I have seen one without knowing that's what it was!

Will do. I don't have any Liquidambar, so they're pretty new to me. I want to see if I can keep them alive here. What would you consider it's flaws?

Mostly coarse growth/long internodes/leaf size. Not unmanageable, but worth keeping in mind when deciding on a final tree size/scale.
