Bought this beauty today from Dragontree in Palm City Florida. I am SO excited about this tree. I live in New York and the tree is from South Florida so it will stay in Florida until April (after the winters worst has passed), when I will bring it up to New York and start working on it. I hope to create a powerful flat top style Cypress out of it.

Continued some work on it today. I didn’t work the top because it will be traveling in a car at the end of the month and in order to fit the top needs to be a little flexible. And/or i might need to cut about an inch more if it doesn’t fit.

I’ll clean that chop (hollow out a bit) in the future when i can get my hands on a dremel.

Ok. ?? i won’t touch this again for a while. I just couldn’t sleep last night and was looking at this tree. In my mind i had done a flat top but in reality i had made a “Christmas tree” so i went out this morning and fixed it. Oh and i did a test fitting in the car and it FITS! it’s perfect. It’s ready for its trek north at the end of the month.

What are your winter storage plans for this tree?

I have an unheated sunroom in Weehawken NJ. I plan on keeping it in there and monitoring the temp to keep it cool but not freezing. I’ll keep it in there till probably late March-mid April when the threat of freeze is gone. This is my first winter with trees in the north so I’m learning.

not to bad - I would of added a bit more movement in the main branches as they are a bit bar branches right now. Though you can cut back hard next year to fix it

Coming along very nicely! Love the tapering lower trunk. What is the height - I'm estimating a bit over 33" based on the beer can.

Have one in the ground that I'm planning to develop in a similar way. Will be following this one.

Wow, really good guess. Thank you. Yes it’s 34 inches from soil line to top. The base is 10” across.

Coming along nicely! Keep updating, it’s fun to see the progress

This is the first I have heard of the “cow paddy” style of bonsai? 🤔

In any event, tree looks good! Although...I’m still not seeing the cow patty...for better or worse..

Haha. Some people say foliage pads. I guess a say cow patties. I’ve learned something about myself! 91C11F3E-B1EC-4E9D-AB83-E5F8F93E6E27.jpeg
See it now?!
