Kumquat Calamondin backbud

hi guys just got a cutting of a calamondin tree in a pot for 2 months now and is doing good. its about 2ft 1/2 tall. having problem with backbudding, its ferociously just spurting new growth at the top. how would i go about trying to get backbud on it?

If you are sure it's putting on new growth, ie. etting taller/longer, then snip the treminal bud off, same as most materials. But you say it's only a cutting for 2 months, I'd be tempted to wait for spring before doing much else.
