Kishu on a cliff

Not bad but I would Jin that bottom branch too imo .. and just keep the two pads of foliage it detracts and goes too far over the cliff .. but if you went to keep it .. it looks good either way
I like it for now, but maybe I'll raise it a bit. It doesn't look as disjointed in person.

Outstanding documentation of your process. @Colorado nailed the lookalike….Half Dome.
That a magnificent rock. The vertical lines, texture, color and gentle rounded shape are striking. And, I imagine it is also quite heavy.
Well done on the entire composition. Mighty fine!
Thanks; there are a lot of this type of rock at the beach we go to - but I haven't found any quite as good as this one yet.

Definitely heavy!

This is an amazing progression. And an inspiration for upstarts like myself. I've a couple candidates for RoR, but still haven't mustered the courage...
...or the experience.
Keep up the good work!

That's a fantastic display. How much of the root mass do you think is growing into the substrate that's in the pot? Do you water into the pot, or just keep the mossy part moist?

There's some down there, but not a ton. I think the substrate I used was too small and is staying too wet.

Kinda can't wait for that branch to die, dry, and hold its shape so I can jin it.
In my experience you can better take of the bark when still alive and wet and wire it to set it in place and let the wood dry.
If you want to take of the bark at a later stage it will be much harder to get the bark of the branche.

This is true, but a couple reasons I didn't do that:

1. I wasn't sure I was going to jin it until the end
2. I've read/heard in passing that copper can discolor (fresh?) jins (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Plus, it's so small it won't take long, and I have jin scaping tools.
