A friend of mine was moving and gave me an eleven year old Florida Long Leaf Pine. It has a one and three quarter inch base and is nineteen in height with a fourteen inch thread. The tree has been in his garage at a window for years. It's in a eighteen inch by nine inch pot, the tree is in excellent shape but to my knowledge it hasn't been fertilized for some time. What would be a good fertilizer for this tree? THANKS

Regular fertilizer, like miracle gro or similar, can be used according to label directions. The tree should be outside. Since it was inside introduce it to the outdoors in shade and gradually to more light. (talking weeks and months - not days). Pines normally grow in full sun but I am not familiar with this species or your area. (If your area is hot you don't want to cook it in hot sun)

Long leaf pines are not good for bonsai. Have fun growing it and use it in your landscape somewhere but don't waste your time trying to reduce the needles.
