Since you repotted it 2 years in a roeiboot I would think it’s a safe idea to just let it grow this year. Although it seems like a vigorous young plant it would probably do more harm than good if you start pinching etc. You could always soft prune it mid summer or in fall if you’re satisfied with the thickness. This will also induce backbuddingGoing to let it grow for now. I'd like it to bulk up a bit as well, and a lot of the branching will need a reset anyway.
But this is my first maple, so advice is welcome.
