What is required to graduate from "Sticks in a Pot" to a legitiment "Maple Tree Forest"???

i would say the category requirements for a forest are the same as the they are for single trees:

age, the impression of age, and the overall ability to convey the feeling that an artist’s vision is at work (even when this is meant to recede into background)

I hope this qualify's as Japanese Maple Forest Bonsai/Penjing This is at 3 years, 2015

Like the maples. I would myself hope for smaller leaves & more branches. (But then again, I sold my forst planting because I realized that the smaller trees are just not going to cut it with the level of detail needed to make a convincing image).
