Japanese Maple progression, from Randy Knight

A little trim post-flush. Not much fertilizer has been used this year, so some of the buds are still opening. The internodes on the new shoots are small though. One of the thread grafts died due to some kind of pathogen, so it was cut off.

The maple today, showing fall color. Close to the base, a thread/root graft has done double duty by helping to heal a large wound by bridging the gap between both sides. It's almost healed, probably I'll cut it off next year. There might be more root grafts in the spring, it's also due for a new pot. I'll try to update after the leaves fall, as the ramification is starting to get nice.
