I have had this tree for quite some time, but never started a thread about it. I think I got it in 2019, so for boxwood, it's developed relatively fast. Japanese are quicker than the other types of boxwood. This last summer the tree put on flowers and fruits for the first time. I'm wondering if I should remove them all at this point, or if they will just fall off on their own, didn't know they would even stay on over winter as it's never had them before. Anyone out there know if they will fall on their own? Progression shots from 19 to today.

Remove them. They’re not very attractive. And think they can weaken the branch they’re on if left to hang. My Japanese boxwood does this as well

Yours is a beautiful tree BTW
Thanks for that, I never even knew they fruited! Is yours pretty vigorous? I don’t do a lot of fertilizing on this one and it seems to do well, it’s so dense now. Got this one back in the good days on FB auctions, of course it was a @MACH5 tree….

It's really come into its own. Looks lovely. I've always been afraid to add the species. Wasn't there blight with them awhile back. That deterred me from getting them.

Thank you 😊. I do know about that blight, but don’t know if it’s across all types. Hopefully not, these are pretty different in growth rates, so it might be safe? If you look up the blight, it talks about American, English, and Korean all being the effected types.

Boxwood blight is overblown. I’ve had boxwood for decades. I’m in the heart of blight country. No issues.

IMO It’s not really a factor. Watering and soil errors are much more common with boxwood bonsai.

Buxus flower through winter down here. Buxus harlandii has more open fluffy flowers but I've never seen fruits. Maybe we don't have the correct pollinators when they flower. I've rarely cut the flowers off so they must eventually fall off of their own accord.

Coming along nicely Judy! I have to say that I love boxwood flowers but I don't think I've ever seen fruit. In that last image, those look like flower buds - kind of blurry, are they actually fruits? The one I got from you (I posted an update in my recent thread) hasn't flowered, maybe it's a variety that doesn't?

Those are flower buds. Fruit comes in late spring. It’s odd looking and can stay on the tree for a pretty long time like over a year

This is what box of fruit looks like mostly. I have Japanese boxwood. The photo is of English boxwood fruit. The fruit on mine looks pretty much the same

Thanks Chris! and I don't really know about this flowering of boxwoods, I've only ever had the kingsville other than this one. I think these are the fruits from last years flowering. Although I just got done knocking them all off, and they did seem like flowers not yet opened. So maybe I'm just missed that they are new flowers for this year.... Oh well, guess I'll never know now, lol...I'll have to go checkout your update!
