My little guy seems to be doing all right so far.

This Summer it definitely looked a little more peppy.
I know technically it’s not even winter yet, but I think it seems pretty happy under the blurple Lights I have to offer. It stays in the lower to mid 60s down here.

I keep it moist.

I collected some seeds from one growing on a garden 2 weeks ago and got them in a pot. It’s winter so Let’s see if something comes out of it. The mother plant was flowering so I may come back later (late spring maybe?) to collect more seeds when temperature are warmer.

Looks like mid-winter re-waking: Mine always start pushing as the days lentghen. once we get a stretch of sun again, I fully expect mine to shoot their first push for this year too.

I got looking at it closer and it has quite a bit of new growth starting, Some new branching at the tips and some new leaves back on branches. Very encouraging! I have found it likes to be watered about every three to four days. Looking forward to some longer and warmer days. -20 plus F this weekend is going to suck!!

Very encouraging. When you said mid-winter push, Leatherback, I had no idea it would be so strong. Even getting some budding back up the branches. I'm quite excited and can't wait for warmer weather!

Did some trimming of the top. I just can’t seem to get the bottom/middle of the right side to thicken up. Did some wiring to the bottom half to get the branches in better positioning and open it up.
Next is wiring the top half and thin it out.

I find I get more buds on the trunk than I need

Finally getting some outside time during the day but nights are still in the 30s and 40s. Still to erratic of temps so it goes out when it can but work messes with that. Still seems to be getting new growth so I guess it's still progressing.

Looks like mine is not dead after all.
Perhaps a perennial in my situation.

note they are not true tropicals. A sprinkling of frost is supposedly OK for them. Supposedly because I shelter mine too. I am the only one I know over here that has one. Not going to experiment on it. I am really pushing to get this propagation understood and be able to share around so I can trial some things.

If you get to propagate, I would be interested in some cuttings!

May I ask where did you originally got yours?

Ever since I've seen this beauty from Luis Galvão I've wanted one, but haven't manage to properly care for any tropical since moving to Austria. Now that I have more indoor space, I could try some setup with uv lights.

In their native grounds here in south Brazil, yes they are resistant to frost. But the most we get here is dew freezing over night and melting as the sun rises, and even in the ground all their canopy dies because of it, losing branches in the process and resprouting later. In pots it's even worse, if you let yours get frost, in the best case you will loose branches and in the worst your plant can die.
