I bought this Juniper chinensis today because I liked the form and saw a literati in it and wanted to try styling one. I am curious if anyone reading this could inform me what to expect out of this healing wound it has. Ot looks like it was cut with a knife. I have no clue. I could do with or without this branch. Just curious if anyone knows what it would create in the future or if it'd be better just to remove it. Thankss!

I'm guessing mechanical damage. It won't hurt the tree -- we do this intentionally all the time when we create shari! If you let the branch grow freely it will close up in a year or two.

Thank you. I hope to get into shari. It's very beautiful.

One more vote for mechanical damage.

A fungal or bacterial cause would look nasty
