Is this a sacrifice branch? Or will it cause reverse taper if I leave it? (Dawn Redwood)

I am letting this dawn redwood grow vertical to thicken the trunk. I am wondering what to do about this node. Worried it may contribute to some reverse taper problems. Is this too high up the trunk to be considered a sacrifice branch? Recommend to remove to any more reverse taper from happening?

You can have a sacrifice branch anywhere on the trunk. Sacrifice branch will thicken the trunk below where it joins so up a bit means a bit more trunk will be thicker.
Have you considered trunk taper in tour grow plans? Letting a trunk grow will certainly thicken it but young trees tend to thicken all the way along the trunk so you end up with a thick trunk with no taper. Branches like the one you've shown are valuable as alternative trunks. As the main trunk thickens we can chop just above the side branch and end up with a shorter trunk with taper. Branches that grow up at a steep angle are even better when you don't want too much bend in the new trunk line.
I'd leave that one to grow. I suspect you'll be glad it's there at some stage.
