Is Ezo spruce particularly sensitive to sunlight?

I have a bunch of these seedlings and they're all showing signs of sunburn, I've put them in a more shaded position for now. Just wondering if it's to be expected or not. Thanks!

Needles on most spruces last about 1-2 years. So I think, like Leatherback, that it's probably natural shedding.
 
Agree with above. Sunburn almost always occurs on the top or outer edges where sun is strongest. There can be other causes for oldest needles to die but most usual is natural senescence which usually means nothing we can do to prevent this.
