Hello,
This is in regard to pines and sequoias in nature where the top branches are longer than the bottom branches.

It seems this would cause inverse taper, but what I'm seeing is the trunk still tapers well, and the branches appear around the same thickness.

At first I thought it might be the angle of the branches, but the actual length of the branches seem upside down.

I really like this look.

How can I achieve it starting from a seedling?

I don’t think that would cause reverse taper at all. Just make the tree thicker to accommodate the bigger branches. In nature, even multiple (3 or more) branches emerging from one spot dosent always cause reverse taper, although with bonsai that’s a big no no!

Branch length has nothing to do with developing inverse taper. Inverse taper happens when branches emerge from the same point (level) on the trunk.
