I am a big fan of graham potter and harry harrington since i first started bonsai,
i had not seen that Pavel tree @BobbyLane i really like that style! I hope to be able to create a similar 'back curve' with the y branch (below)

Below are some rough virts and close ups of the parts i hope to inprove with carving

My first plan if i get round to carving is to tackle the flat cut tops, i will probably not cut into live tissues until next year.

As far as the conifer pads I'm hoping to have similar canopy to these also by potter

Cool virts, you have the right idea, I like these ideas best

This is a good one to watch also for the carving of the hollows, not easy as it looks to get tops to the trunks like this though, trust me I have tried. But yeh, yours might be suited to more tapering tops, no harm in some variation though. Good idea keeping one taller than the rest. Also, if you could stumble upon some unique rock, which is a similar color to the trunk, you could even try wedging it into the side of the nebari to give it some power/spread. See what I did with the rock on this Elm https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/english-elm-yamadori.23751/

did you bring it home, or still thinking?
I brought it home, I have a hard time saying no to trees! I see the cost like 'tuition fees' at a school, I needed something to practice carving on.

cool elm bobby, I also know whose cup that is! Thanks for the feedback I will keep an eye out and see if any rocks stand out,

@leatherback I have considered a split and I won't rule it out long term (after a repot or 2 I may be more tempted)! but for now I like the idea of a huge clump
