Wife wanted something with flowers, this was cheap, only 2 dahlurs or so.
Apparently it’s some sort of begonia. I’ve googled begonias and couldn’t find anything that matches this. The tree that they sent me is a hard pruned, bare rooted stick
Can anybody help me out here?

Check yesterday's post, I planted a nice fat-ish little trident. It rained all day today and yesterday, let's hope spring hits hard when it clears. It's not cold, but i hope the rain is a signal for trees that seasons are changing.

Begonia are herbaceous - no true wood. The tree you showed looks like it has true wood. If you see growth rings in the cross sections of the cut branches you definitely have a true woody plant. The photo looked a very good match for Chaenomeles 'Toyo Nishiki' the flowering quince. I would treat it as a flowering quince.

The begonia with maple leafs is from a wet dry subtropic region, and would likely be killed by frost and or too much water during it's dormant cycle. The begonia could go a couple months without water.

The 'Toyo Nishiki' you die the second day into a drought. It needs a cool formant winter. It is winter hardy to more than -15 C.

So culture for Chaenomeles would kill a begonia, and culture for a begonia would kill a 'Toyo Nishiki'. There is no doubt, you have a Chaenomeles, most likely 'Toyo Nishiki'.

Only Begonia Richardsiana is semi-almost-nearly bonsaiable, if you're stranded on a desert island and have long fingernails to pinch & grow. It has leaves that, if you squint just-t-t right, look like... leaves. The hard parts are remotely... hard.

the chinese words say it’s a Japanese flowering quince.

Is Quince houseplantable? Doesn't it need a cold, ~v35°F quiescent period?

Your Chinese isnt that great?
Mine is non existant.

I was checking out the bark on the trunk. I think its possible it is flowering quince. It's not common to find a Toyonishiki trunk like that though. Mostly clumps.
