I think I'm killing it.

If you are in a part of New York that is warmer then usual it could go outside now. Many parts of the State are just getting an occasional light frost which is weird but actually be good if so...

Not sure about this. It takes months for trees to enter dormancy and develop their cold resistance. Being inside, this one is not likely to be ready for a freeze any time soon and would probably be killed outright. If you care about it, try to get it through the winter in a cool sunny window...if you don't care put it outside and show us a picture of it in June, 2016...this could be a learning experience for everyone;).

Neither am I so I used the word "if" :p What I am referring to is that a large portion of the North East including my area will have a 70F Christmas. We all have had a few light frosts overnight followed by 50's and higher. My Junipers are still sitting on a shelf outside but even with such mild weather they are positively dormant. I am pretty certain it has a LOT to do with daylight hours being shorter. It poses a bit of a pain in the ass though in that I am hand watering far more then usual.

I agree with the others in that it will eventually die if kept indoors but that juniper looks pretty healthy to me. The foliage on the outside looks green and healthy. I foliage on the inside will die from lack of sun light and is normal. That my two cents.

Totally!

I also agree that it should be outside but for the moment it looks perfectly healthy to me.
Interior foliage/little branches of junipers die but it's ok as long as the exterior foliage stay green and new shots grow.

However sure it will be much better outside.
