I came across some boxwood being that were dug out of a garden and being thrown away. I don't really know how to ensure they survive. I planted them in my yard for the time being. My main question is should I trim back an amount of foliage to ensure they survive or leave as is? I'm in New Orleans they will get afternoon shade and morning full sun. Thanks in advanced.

Part of the answer depends on how much root you were able to keep. I would let it be for now and prune next growing season. If the roots are not enough for the foliage the tree will shed what it can’t feed. From my experience boxwoods are tough critters, and when happy can be sheared/pruned really hard. They will bud on old wood, but some varieties are much s l o w e r than others. Good luck with them!

Surprisingly they had a lot of root. I'll leave them as they are. Thanks for your time.
