How much foliage can you safely remove from junipers for an initial styling?

Glad I am not in the same circles.
First and foremost a demo should be about how one can make better bonsai. Dead trees are not bonsai.

All very helpful replies. The junipers I have in mind are all pretty healthy/vigorous and have been growing undisturbed for several years so I think I’ll experiment with 50-80% and repot the ones with

Part of BDS .... Is the fact That people still remove more foliage then necessary to most quickly complete a good design.

The more foliage the faster the development.

You have to see the future without removing stuff that doesn't need removal, then the future comes faster.
