How is my wiring?

Hey,
I have finally recently received my first bonsai tree! It is in the middle of summer where I live and I have been giving this hinoki cypress tons of sun. I have received some wire in the mail and have attempted my first wiring. Here’s some images! And before wiring images Here.
I have also used the wire to add movement into the trunk as well (the wire tied off to the side that is!)
Any tips? Feedback?

E, if you attach your pictures here you'll get more replies. If they're being honest, the replies will say that your wiring needs work. You need to understand how to properly anchor wire and what that provides, proper sizing selection, and general tidiness.

Your wiring needs a lot of improvement both in technique and wire size selection. I'd recommend you either join a bonsai club that offers classes or find a qualified bonsai instructor. If those are not options then there are some very good wiring videos on the internet. Check out bonsai Mirai and Eisen-en bonsai for starters.
You also mentioned that you are giving the tree a lot of sun. Where I live full sun is a death sentence for Hinokis.

Frankly, looks like my wiring.
If I ever get a tree anchored in a pot right I think I'll be ok.

Takes practice. A good sense of the aesthetics will help you know where you're getting it wrong, and where you're getting it right.

Here’s the images. Cheers for the heads up about that! I really appreciate all of your advice. I will watch the videos suggested once I get home. I have a couple more questions though. I am thinking of just removing all of my wiring as it is very very amateur I have tied the trunk down in 3 places to straighten it a bit and am thinking of just keeping that. Would that be a good idea? Or should I scrap all of it. Also is it too young to style?

Wayne, you should explain that this image of Kimura’s wiring was done purposefully using colored wire so that it is easy to distinguish the wires. On a bonsai, the wire should not be coated. Kimora wired this as a demonstration for a magazine article about “how to wire”.

And, to be perfectly honest, he made a mistake when he wired the heavy black wire! See how it starts out wrapping the main line going from right to left? Then he wraps under the fork, and instead of continuing straight on, he decides to take the left fork. So, he brought the wire up from underneath, and goes up the left fork. BUT, he changes the direction of the spiral in the process, now going up from right to left! Technically, that’s a no-no!!!

What he SHOULD have done if he wanted to use the black wire on that branch would have been to tighten the spiral on the main branch before he got to the fork so that the wire would come back up over the top of the fork, then down and around the new branch on the left. That would have kept the spirals going the same way all the way up.


Kimora made the mistake as shown in Fig F, above.

Thanks for that! I will definitely need to rewire it tonight - or at least remove what I have done so far. It is 1.5mm anodised aluminium wire. Is it too young a tree to wire ?

Oops! I meant to say he was going from left to right before the fork, and then after the fork he was going from right to left. Sorry about that!

Lots of advice depends on what part of the world the tree is in and what the local climate is like.
You have mentioned it is currently summer so that narrows down to Southern hemisphere but still leaves many diverse local climate zones to guess at. Adding a general location to your profile means a guide will be available to other readers whenever you post and saves having to remember to write it each time.

Hm.. I looks like it does make sense what he did though? If you look at the way the forks are wired, with wired in opposite direction wired on each side of the fork. The heavy black is more usefull for the heavier right branch, and as such, there seems a need to change direction of the wire there.
How would you have done this?
