Hello everyone,

I'm new here and fairly new to bonsai trees. I'm not entirely sure of what type of tree I have, but it's been doing very well. I've had it for about 6 months and seems to be growing. However, I have noticed I have these incredibly tiny black bugs that crawl all over the soil and pot. I need help getting rid of them if they are harmful. There are not any flying gnats, just these things...and there are a lot of them. Once I noticed them, I took a time lapse with my phone and wow, there are a lot. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've attached a photo of my tree leaves, and a photo of the bug. The one I took a photo of is on the plate that I have the pot sitting on. Thank you guys so much!!

Edit with more information:
My bonsai lives indoors next to a window that gets plenty of sun.

It's a "black adventurer bug with a white dot on it", how much of them do u have? btw, your tree looks very healthy man!
Also you can post ur location in ur profile so the pro's know it so they can give u advise (some is related to ur climate zone and location).
As you noticed perhaps, I haven't the slightest clue what that evil looking creature is, and if it eats bonsai for breakfast.

Thanks! LOL
I'm in northern Alabama. The USDA site says I'm in 7b. The little guy stays inside by a window though.

I think I just figured out that they are Globular Springtails. Anyone have any advice on how to kill them without killing my tree?

From what I've read, it appears I have to dry out my plant and hope they leave. Does anyone have any advice on any specific pesticide I could use that is safe for my tree?

I've read they only eat the algae growing on the soil, tree, etc.

Keep away the algae and they'll go.

No sprays....short water blast....
Or squish fest.

Welcome to Crazy!
