After having a pretty nice cooler string of weather from April to almost mid-July, we're set to feel the heat for the next few days, just like the rest of the planet. Forecast is for mid 90's to plus 100 for the next five days, then back to the low 90's. Low 90's don't bother me. 100 F + temps do. I'm moving all my full-sun trees under shade until this hot spell passes. Wet towels on top of pots to cool them only go so far.

It’s only going into mid 90’s through weekend up near me , but I have spruce , beech, hornbeam and accents under shade. Persimmon,Pines, larch , and junipers are out still .. I have pvc pipe to make a shade hoop to put them all in

We are in the midst of a heat spell also, so I feel your pain! Mid to high 90s through this weekend. Looks like it may break down into the 80s next week…fingers crossed!

This is my first year with any sort of bonsai, all of them are in an area that pretty reliably gets early/late morning sun and mid afternoon shade. White vinyl privacy fence with a shade tree. They seem to be ok, 2 ficus, 2 juniper and 1 Japanese Maple. I can't mount a shade cloth but i like the idea of wet towels to keep the pots cool along with the extra early morning watering i've been doing. Best of luck to all those feeling the heat!
Don't forget to stay hydrated (not just your plants!)

Yep, the ol' keester is getting pretty soupy, even up here!🥵

Might be 4x's watering a day for next week or so.....a drawback of "fancy dirt"!:p

Every species……pines too?

But ,as I think i
this over I guess a bonsai pots are not the same as two and 3 inch stonewool blocks ,such that I use.

I noticed that weather forcast too by the end of the five day approaching 100 and the trees did have a very hot look to them today but all seemed well.
(This picture is from weeks ago).

Left the Ponderosa out. It can take it. Most pines can, except the real problem is overheated roots in exposed pots. There has been a theory that pines in open mixes can suffer from heat because of hot water vapor developing in pots overheated by the sun on really hot days with constant sun exposure. I've heard that several times. Don't know if it's true though.

To avoid this possibility, here we cover our pots and the surface of the soil with wet towels during the hottest hours of the day.
But we do leave the tree itself exposed to the sun.

Same here in NY. I have my son on bonsai duty this week checking the soil and ensuring they get water.

So far my JBPs are doing fine. I water them once and twice when I have time. Looks healthy as ever.

Having somewhat of a heatwave in Europe too, we need a bit of rain now though. I love this type of weather though as far as the trees are concerned because we get growth you may not have got otherwise. I remember my large Zelkova pushing out 4 strong flushes in last summers scorching heat. this season ive been able to defoliate a beech and hornbeam much later than the norm, knowing that the heat and sun will induce new leaves in just over a week i predict.
usually my trees can be good with one full watering a day, since my mixes are usually more organic than most. a second watering is more of a sprinkle over the surfaces.

Started watering my deciduous trees 2x a day once the temps got better than 90 during the day.
So far left the pines and junipers alone

This heat is no joke for older people with conditions but certainly not as bad as elsewhere. Its like walking in soup when you walk out the door and my breathing is labored.
On the plus side, We have had about 4-5 inches of rain in the past two weeks, so watering has been a breeze.

It's been an unusually hot early summer here. We were in Florida the week of the 4th and it was in the 90's there and 100 here at home. Not to mention the gross humidity that takes your breath away when you walk outside.

Is there a guide as to what trees I should be moving to the shade? My Dawn Redwood looked a little stressed today, gets SE sun from sunrise to about 4pm. Moved that one back to the shade at 12pm spot. What plants can I leave in the "sunrise to about 4pm" spot if any? Pines, Junipers, River Birch, Elms Chinese & Dutch, Barbados Cherry, ficus microcarpa, & Japanese Maples?
