I have always used a pruning saw for cutting branches. Holding the tree or branch with one hand trying to hold it steady without disturbing the roots or breaking other branches in the process.

I bought a saw blade for the Dremmel a few months ago knowing I had some dead branches to remove from a few trees. Being very skeptical of using it thinking it would clog easy I regretted buying it and went about the removal with the good old saw. Can't go wrong with that!!

Well this morning I finally decided to cut a few dead branches back closer to the trunk on another tree. Still not sure if I am going to carve them or remove them completely I wanted to at least leave a stub. The 2 branches were about 1 inch in diameter. So I figured lets give the Dremmel a try.
Oh how I love this thing. No vibration no shaking tree no holding the trunk or branch and no disturbed roots! Just a smooth constant FAST cut and it never clogged the wheel. I will never use a pruning saw again!!

Here is a picture of the amazing wheel.

On a side note I don't know how it does on live wood. That could very well clog the wheel. But I know for sure it zips right through HARD dead wood on an azalea in just a few seconds.

I prefer a light saber, you can even use one when riding your hover board.

If you can afford a stub...that is what the lopper is for....does the job very fast. I can easily clean up with the concave cutter or know cutter after if need be. FYI, 1" azalea can be cut with a concave cutter easily too.

Very easy to cut off a branch you want to keep. I know, I have done it.

I used something like that to carve on a fully wired tree. Got caught up in the wire and I ripped the entire apex off. I don't carve wired trees anymore.
