It’s on the pricier side. 400+ Has a nice base though and a pretty good natural place to chop it. Top of the tree is either junk or maybe a mediocre air layer. Korean hornbeam, coreana

Very nice lower trunk. Pity they let it get away with such a big sacrifice trunk. That will be one big scar. Hopefully at the back so not obvious when the new leader grows a bit.
It will probably still take someone 5 years or more to grow a new leader that matches the base and develop some real branches.
Sometimes asking prices are ambit claims. Try negotiating for a reduced price?

The tree does have a particularly interesting base. I can imaging some interesting possibilities. My experience with Korean Hornbeam is that the tree quickly begins a rollover healing over chops. It still takes awhile….but not forever….and it looks good during the rollover development stages.

Way over priced... but still good potential definitely.. I would say over priced by if the price is 400 by 150 bucks try to start their and I would not be interested if you couldn't get the price to fall by 100 bucks. Truly you could buy a bare-root tree and grow it for 4 years or less to get the trunk thickness of that tree and control the parameters better

Pre-bonsai be expensive out in Cali. Usually evens out buying cheaper material and having it shipped here lol. My biggest hang up is the chop, I have one of this species and i've spent 3 years growing out the next leader after a similar chop I made on that one. I think i'll call and see if I can get it knocked down a little bit.
