This isn't specifically a bonsai jade plant, but I thought I would ask here and get advice. There is a large (4-5ft) jade plant in our backyard growing in the ground that recently was blown over during some very strong winds. In an effort to move it to a less vulnerable position, we want to put the plant in a large pot.
I'm curious what kind of soil would be good for this. Being that it will need a very large pot, and jades are not too fussy, I'm not keen to use a full bonsai mix with akadama or other more pricey components. Some other gardening blogs suggest simply buying cactus mix and cutting it with sharp builders sand or perlite or pumice. Would this suffice? Or should I just mix up some pumice and lava rock with some pine bark to use a more bonsai style mix?
