In any case, I thought I would start a thread for my latest experiment, Acca sellowiana, otherwise known as Pineapple Guava. Feijoa is an old name but it worked for the title.

Here is one that's currently in a cut down gallon. It's pretty thick and I have not yet decided which of the branches to keep. I think it's going to be pretty cool in time. Just quick and dirty pics. 20171015_150143.jpg 20171015_150223.jpg

Nice chunky one. I have one of these...not nearly as fat. Mine has some brown on the leaves. I will have to give you a pic maybe you can diagnose. Where did you get it from?

Kind of a double trunker I am trying to create some separation with the guy wires. Read @Smoke article about fungus and treated it and cut the brown leaves off. You can see a bit of it on the leaves upfront. You experience much fungus up there?

I was just going to say I think it's fungal. Yea we get it pretty bad. I think fungus is the only thing that can slow down a strawberry guava. We will see on these new ones. I think they going to be a fun species. We will learn together.

Never occured to me it would be fungal in AZ heat. I had all plants under shade with misting and watering all summer must have created a science experiment. This is what I used:

Any other suggestions?

I am a convert!

My neighbor has a huge tree that hangs over the backyard. The fruit falls every year and my dog loves em.

Clyde,

ask around for this guava type - Myrcia
Produces finer leaves, branches and should grow by you.

I don't know if this is a local type, was given as a young plant as a gift.
Good Day

As it was some months ago, have to shoot a new image.

Here is a younger one.

You guys are killing me with bonsai envy! That is beautiful.

If anyone wants the original tree, I'm selling it in the .99 cent auction on Facebook. It's coming along nicely, pushing buds everywhere! I'd keep it but I need the room.

By the way, it has a 2.6" base and tapers up to 1.3" at the waist and it's about 6" tall but needs some reduction.
