Fuchsia appreciation thread?

To show others how easy it is to root fuxcia cuttings i did a test.
On 18 of june i took 6 cuttings, 3 directly in soil/substrate and 3 in water. After cutting them of the mother plants, i removed all bottom leaves, and made some scars for faster rooting All 6 with rooting hormone on the wounds.

Now 7 days later. You can see the roots growing from the scars/wounds.

Directly in soil/substrate.

I've got a couple of fuchsia in planters at the back of my house that flower profusely. Are they all Hardy in the UK or just some of them?
They're quite untidy and need moved the ones that I've got. When is the best time to dig them out and move them ?

Spring, when they show signs of coming to life. bud swelling.

Yours is more pink then mine. Mine has a redish color, with purple skirt. And same leaf type.

Came across this one last weekend. Took some cuttings of it. Magellancia 'David', it has a other type of leaf, and gets more busher, they are from the area Mexico to Panama.
Non-Witerhardy.

The little Microphylla has somehow kept some leaves through winter. It's been nestled (still in pot) between a few in the raised bed. Needs a clean up...Will be getting that moss off when I get chance!

For me i get some variation in behaivor.
2 of the 3 Microphylla still have most of its leaves.
1 is still producing some flowers.
And 1 seems to have sufferd from some frost, and the tips died back.

5or 6 more weeks before the weather will be better. Then i will go clean them up and trim them back.

Yeah my other one lost all but a few leaves. Just expected them to lose them all. I'm so ready for warmer weather!

@Clorgan, you inspired me to bring mine in for the winter. There is no such thing as a hardy fuchsia here and it will never be a bonsai, but I am enjoying the flowers this winter.

After seeing these flowers, i just had to get one. so I bought a tiny one 2 weeks ago.
I am reading up on them and looking forward to learning.

It's actually blooming more profusely than it did outside!

When there outside, they need to be partitional in shade(hottest periode of the day).
Full sun in summer is sometimes to harsh for them (30c or higher and there stunned.)
Also check for pest infestation outside, as they will drain a lot of energy of the plants.

This winter i kept my cuttings/young plants in my south facing window. But i also noticed that there actually growing beter and stronger then the growth i get in spring, summer. But my plants are not procducing any flowers.

This magellanica has been in the ground nearly a couple of years.. Thinking I'll pull it up to see the root situation this year... No idea how far the roots will have spread in that time?

Repotted the Microphylla...Planted it lower and going for a clump style. I think it could turn out rather nice!

Will do some pruning and possibly a little wiring when it's settled

Hi clorgan , hope you've faired OK with all the storms around UK recently . One thing that had faired well is the fuschia in my back garden. The base of it grew so big and chunky and flowered well into December maybe even January. Only just lost all its leaves with the recent winds . I don't even know if it's Hardy or not I lost the label . Anyway if it comes back to life this season I'll be putting it into a pot once the buds start popping . Yours looks further on than mine in that regard

All fine, thank you! Glad to hear your fuchsia did well, hope your others did too. Gosh, I've never seen them flower into Dec/Jan! Fingers crossed you see some buds soon.
