With a 10” base Franco is girthy. Franco had a fight with a track hoe and lost.

Franco has a nice twisting base. It has been a week and Franco shows no buds.

It took 10 days but Franco finally show a tiny bud on the little branch. I hope that is sign for many more to come in the next few weeks.

Franco is lumbering along. Much slower than all other trees.

Those bald cypress stumps are awesome. Seem tough too. With a trunk that big and doesn't look like a lot of roots. Just a big ol cutting.

Are the newly collected BC protected from the sun ?

For the first few weeks they get 3-4 hrs of morning sun. After that they are in full sun and watered twice a day. For example Franco was collected April 14th and kept under the porch getting only morning sun until he was moved out to full sun on May 10th.

I was thinking you probably shaded them initially.

Pretty much. Right now they are building roots for sure. I will leave them in those tubs until next spring when they might be moved to mica pots.

Temperature was in the high 70's low 80's. No need to shade them other than avoiding the scorching afternoon sun in the first 3-4 weeks. After that they will take all the sun so long as there is enough water.

Franco is looking good. The current plan is to move to a bus tub then flooded late this spring.

Holy crap!...

These trees grow/develop so "comparably" quickly!

And Franco dragged his feet, even!

I now have 6 BC seedlings.... Courtesy our friend Matteo..

So I will be reporting my experiments and findings, eventually.
