Good morning everyone

So I’ve more or less let my ficus fig grow all year for some structure. I’m wanting to shape it a little - by pruning. I’m in the uk and was hoping I could do so now?

Can you prune ficus bonsai in the winter, thank you in advance for any help.

Welcome! Unless you have supplemental lighting, tropicals are usually just limping through the winter inside. It’s better to leave their foliage to help them get through, then prune when they’re outside in spring/summer and growing quickly.

Perfect - thank you very much.

I agree with this advice, and just wanted to add - it is easy to get the impression that tropical trees don't have seasonal growth just because they don't act like deciduous trees. Having lived in Southern California for 20 years, let me guarantee you that tropical trees in tropical climates typically take the winter and the summer off. They grow strongest in the spring, and then push a second round of growth in the fall after the heat of the summer. In the winter (which is typically the rainy season), even outside, they normally just sit.

I agree with all that has been said. BUT, I've had to do a repot of one of my ficus that grows roots like a maniac and gets grumpy when roots fill up the pot. Its a crazy cranky little tree..
p.s. not suggesting this.
p.s.s. it goes against all wisdom and most definitely shouldn't be done.
p.s.s.s. Should have not said anything.
