I have this fat trident maple. Could this be sumo style? Broom? Informal?

Any sense of value?

Thanks

It could be any of the above.
Did you buy this tree? Or was it given to you?

If it were my tree, or your interested in bonsai, keep it. it’s not worth selling in my opinion.
For someone not interested in bonsai, I’d ask $50 + shipping cost.

I bought it last year. It was much taller and had minimal taper, so I chopped it down.

Cool. Yeah I’d keep it. It has potential to make whatever you want with it.

You’ve started growing a new leader, now let it run wild for awhile. Looks good.

With a base that wide it is definitely a keeper IMO. Lots of options to do thread grafts in late winter wherever you may want a new branch.

that new leader will thicken up really fast if you let it run unchecked all growing season and cut it back when it’s dormant. It’ll get thick really fast and heal that chop wound quicker too.
I have a couple very similar to this one, I’m letting the tops grow unchecked all year and then Cutting back while dormant.. I’m working my roots trying to make sure that’s all good. Should have healed chops, new trunk with improving taper and branches to start the tree into refinement once they have roots nice radial root systems. Anderson flats

The new leader will grow even faster if you put the pot on the ground and let the roots escape through the drainage holes into the soil.
