After 4 years I separated approach graft on a JBP.
I cut half the branch in Dec. and the other half in Early March.
I thought all was well, but apparently it took awhile for the graft to die.
I removed the dead graft, however, there is a large ugly cut on the trunk.
My question is how to best treat the trunk?
Rewound/clean area, cut paste and tape ?
Just tape ?
Just cut paste ?
Nothing ?

Carve it into an inverted tear drop shape. Photosynthate flows down the tree in the inner bark much like one would imagine thick goo to ooze by gravity alone - much like water in a stream. but in slow motion. Remember that sort of tear drop shape of water rushing around the stick you poked into the stream? It was much like a cross-section of an airplane wing. Carve that shape, then the phloem sap will feed the cambium all around the wound and it will close faster.
