This is a tree I had for many years that was part of a trade with @MACH5 years ago. I missed the tree and did find a Eu (standard) Beech that is much the same flavor. I am happy to have struck a trade with Sergio for this tree coming back to me and couldn't be happier with the way the tree has developed in his care. Here is a link to my thread on it back when I thought it was J. Beech. https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/japanese-red-beech.15074/
Sergio discovered that it was E.Red Beech, and somehow we determined that it came from William Valavanis as a starter. Here is his thread on the tree.

Pics from when I got it home ( beside it's sibling) and after several days of thoughtful wiring. The last photo is a slightly different front angle, this tree is good in lots of fronts.

Haha...i'm reading @MACH5 thread about this tree, and came apon this comment he made

@JudyB If this tree ever leaves my garden, rest assured it will go right back to yours! :)
Too funny. I know I missed it more than any other tree I’ve moved on. Thanks for posting that comment Fredman! 😂

Love this tree Judy B! Very cool it has made it back to your garden. A sign of a healthy bonsai relationship with friends if you ask me. 🙂

Bonsai should be about bringing together like minded people who love nature and have a need to express artistic thoughts, I've been lucky with my friends!

The buds are slowly starting to open so I took all the wire off, re wired some small bits and reassessed the apex. Did a some pruning, but mostly just re angling the branching that make up the main apex. I'm pleased that it seems less heavy up high to me, that was the goal, as it didn't have the lighter feel up top that the lower parts have in spades.
